Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Why October?
Yes, we all know and remember the Brest Cancer Awareness Month football games, spirit weeks, and quick donations at the grocery store, but have you ever sat back and wondered, "Am I actually aware of the dangers of breast cancer?"
Beginning in 1985, October became Breast Cancer Awareness Month when the American Cancer Society partnered with a pharmaceutical division to educate women about the importance of early detection and routine mammograms. This campaign piqued widespread interest, and what began as a weeklong program evolved into a monthlong initiative that became an annual, widespread commemoration.
Of course, we encourage all to keep on representing with your pink ribbons, 'I Love Boobies' bracelets, and Empire Glassworks Boobies Dry Pipes, but remember that this month represents a very real issue that affects more than 2.4 million people worldwide.
